Statement of Belief

Street Level affirms the truths spelled out in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. What follows after is our attempt to express key Christian beliefs in a simplified way.

.God is the Creator and Father of all things. (John 1:3; Gen 1:1; John 17:1-2; Col 1:16)

.Jesus Christ, God’s only Son and born of the Virgin Mary, is fully man and fully God. He was sent into the world to restore the relationship between God and us, because God wants everyone to be saved. (John 3:16; Col 1:19)

.By His resurrection from the dead Jesus Christ has shown that He is the only one sent by God to bring salvation, has the authority to forgive sins and judge the world. (John 3v16-18; John 14v6-7; Rom 2v16)

.Every person has fallen short of God’s perfection and as a result comes under His judgement. (Rom 3:23; 6:23; 1 Jn. 1:8; Rom 14:10)

.Only Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins, frees us from God’s judgment and leads us to abundant and eternal life. (Rom. 3:24; 6:23; 1 John 1:7; John 3:16, 10:10; 1 Cor 15:3-4)

.God has accomplished all we need for salvation through Jesus Christ. This is Good News. Salvation is for all yet it remains our responsibility to embrace this gift and put our faith in God through Jesus Christ. (John 14:6; Rom 5:8; John 6:33-37; Matt 19:16-23)

.We look forward to the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thess. 4:15-16; 1 John 3:2; Matt 24:30-31)

.After judgement day we look forward to eternal life with all who have accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour. (John 3:16)

.The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one. (Matt 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14)

.The Holy Spirit indwells Christians and is the source of power to be transformed into the image of Christ. (Rom 8:7, 14; Act 1:8; Eph 1:13-14; Ezek 36:26-27)

.The Bible alone (both New and Old Testaments) is God’s authoritative Word in all circumstances of life. It is the truth about God, our relationship with Him and is   the foundation to build our Christian lives. (2 Tim 3:16-17; Ps 119:137-138; Heb 4:12)

.A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord provides the strength to develop Godly ways to live and to face the difficulties of life. (1 Tim 2:5; 1 John 3:23; 2 Cor 5:17, Phil. 4:13)

.A close personal relationship with the living God results in the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control . (Gal 5:20; John 13:12-17; John 17)

.Spiritual gifts are real today, should be encouraged and developed in line with the guidelines expressed in the New Testament, and used to build up the body of Christ. (1 Cor 12:14; Rom 12:3-8; Eph 4:16)

.All Christians have responsibility to love God with all our heart; to love our neighbour as our self and especially to love one  another as Jesus has loved us; to care for all that God has made and to appreciate all the gifts, abilities and resources God has given us and use them for His glory.   (Matt 22:37-39, Gen 1, Matt 25:14, John 15:9-17)

.God cares for the whole person and requires Christians to do the same.( Matt 25:31-46; 1 John 3:16-18; 1Thess.5:23, James 2:14-19)

.It is the responsibility of Christians to speak out concerning the Good News and the injustice and sin in this world. (James 5:1-6; 2 Tim 4:2; Isa 59:15-16)

.All people are equal in God’s sight regardless of gender, race or cultural standing. (Gal 3:28).

.The Church is all people, regardless of culture or organisation, who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. (Col 1:24; John 17:20-21; Eph 4:4, 16; 1 Cor 1:10-17)

.It is the responsibility of the church to build up those within it and to reach those outside it. (Eph 4:12; Matt 25:31-46, 28-19; Heb 10:24-25)

.As part of church life it is important for believers to be baptised and to share in the Lord’s Supper.(Rom6:3-4;Matt28:19;1Cor11:23)
