Scripture Classes

Street Level has been involved in supporting and then running Anglican Scripture at Parramatta High School. Starting in the early eighties with Colleen Hirst, Street Level supported the Minister from Westmead Anglican Church initially and then continued on after he left, under the guidance of St, John’s Anglican Cathedral.

In time Colleen passed her work over to Jenny Small, who with Greg Hirst,  saw Scripture classes at Parramatta High and then Arthur Phillip High well attended.

Jenny was instrumental in involving other Christian groups such as Aus Life in the regular seminars for senior students at both schools. Interestingly Scripture classes at Arthur Phillip only got approved because one of the deputies was dating a member from the Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOG) and thought Greg must be OK because he rode a Harley.

In the new millenium Grant Howard took over responsibility for Scripture at bothy schools and through his prayerful vision has linked in with a local church based group whose mandate is the employ Christians to teach scripture in local high schools in the Parramatta area. As a result Parramatta has an employed scripture teacher for three days a week and it is being looked at closely at Arthur Phillip.

In the meantime Grant is teaching scripture at Arthur Phillip on a voluntary basis.
